If you’ve lived in Colorado for some time, you know that Colorado Gives Day has become more than just a day to donate—it’s a statewide tradition. Every year, on a Tuesday in December, Coloradans come together to support the nonprofits that strengthen our communities and make them vibrant, inclusive, and compassionate. It’s like a big, collective high-five for all the good happening in our state. And we’re here to tell you why this year, your donation to the CPWD can make a huge difference.
What Is Colorado Gives Day?
Colorado Gives Day is one of the biggest giving movements in the country, designed to inspire Coloradans to support the causes they care about most. It’s not just a day to write a check or click “Donate” on a website—it’s a celebration of generosity and the impact we can create when we come together.
This year, it’s happening on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, but early giving started on November 1. That means you can start donating now and still be part of this powerful movement. Plus, there are some amazing matching opportunities that make this year’s event even more impactful.
Thanks to a $1 million+ Incentive Fund from the Colorado Gives Foundation, every donation made through ColoradoGives.org between November 1 and December 10 gets a proportional boost. The more CPWD raises, the bigger the share we’ll receive from this fund. Your $50 donation could mean even more support for the programs and people you care about.
And this year they are offering something new! If you set up a new recurring donation, your first month’s gift will be matched dollar-for-dollar (up to $100) from a $250,000 match pool. That means your $20 monthly gift turns into $40 for CPWD right away, and your ongoing contributions continue to create lasting change for people with disabilities.
These matching programs are an amazing way to make your contribution go further, turning generosity into tangible impact.
Why Donate to CPWD?
When you donate to CPWD you’re creating opportunities. You’re helping us provide essential services like independent living skills training, peer support, employment assistance, and advocacy. You’re funding programs that make a real difference, like helping someone transition out of a nursing home and into their own apartment or giving a young adult the tools they need to land their first job.
What sets CPWD apart is our focus on empowering people with disabilities to lead. We believe that people with disabilities know best what they need to live their fullest lives. That’s why many of our staff are people with disabilities themselves—they’re not just helping; they’re leading the way.
When you support CPWD, you’re contributing to a larger mission: breaking down barriers for people with disabilities and ensuring that our communities are welcoming to everyone. Supporting people with disabilities is different from—and yet connected to—supporting other marginalized groups. Here’s how:
Disabilities cross all boundaries: Disability doesn’t discriminate. It intersects with every race, gender, age, and socioeconomic background. By supporting people with disabilities, you’re contributing to a more inclusive society for everyone.
It’s about equity, not charity: Supporting people with disabilities isn’t about pity—it’s about recognizing that everyone deserves the same opportunities, whether that’s to work, learn, or simply enjoy life in their community.
It benefits all of us: When we create systems that work for people with disabilities, they often end up working better for everyone. Think about curb cuts, closed captions, or flexible and remote work environments—these started as accommodations but now benefit us all.
Colorado Gives Day is December 10, but you don’t have to wait until then to give. Early giving is already open, and every donation made through ColoradoGives.org qualifies for a boost from the statewide incentive fund. That means your donation to CPWD goes even further.
This year, let’s make Colorado Gives Day about more than dollars. Let’s make it about empowerment, inclusion, and a future where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. When you give to CPWD, you’re helping to build that future—one where people with disabilities are leaders, changemakers, and valued members of our communities.
